ON THE MEETING OF EXPERTS OF PRIDNESTROVIE AND MOLDOVA ON TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND POSTAL SERVICE

On March 14, 2014 the OSCE office in Tiraspol hosted this year's first meeting of expert (working) groups of Pridnestrovie and Moldova on telecommunications and postal service.

In the course of the meeting experts discussed a large number of issues concerning cooperation in the radio frequency use, coordination and planning in the development of modern services in Pridnestrovie and Moldova.

In this regard, a general agreement was expressed by representatives of the sides on the necessity of mutual account of interests when planning the development of TV broadcasting networks and mobile telephony in order to prevent mutual interference in the work of Pridnestrovian and Moldovan operators. The sides agreed to pursue substantive discussions on the designated issues.

A particular attention during the meeting was paid to the work of Pridnestrovian journalists in Moldova and the work of Moldovan mass media representatives in Pridnestrovie. We recall that the issue of Pridnestrovian journalists' work in Moldova became a subject of discussion between political representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova in relation to alleged facts of detention of the Pridnestrovian mass media representatives in Moldova. The Pridnestrovian side gave its assessment to what had happened and expressed its willingness to carry out necessary procedures for accreditation.

In the course of the meeting, the Pridnestrovian side provided exhaustive information on accreditation rules for foreign mass media existing in Pridnestrovie and requested experts from Kishinev to provide similar information in order to enable the Pridnestrovian mass media to cover events in the Republic of Moldova without interference.
