Nina Shtanski, “Pridnestrovian side is deliberate to return to consideration of the OSCE project regarding road transport”

During the meeting of political representatives from Pridnestrovie and Moldova which took place today at OSCE Mission office in Tiraspol the sides didn't manage to reach mutual understanding on issues relating to number plates for Pridnestrovian transport engaged in international carriages. “Pridnestrovian side is deliberate to return to a detailed consideration of the draft protocol decision proposed by the OSCE in Vienna which didn't mention elaboration of a new number,” Pridnestrovian representative in the negotiation process Nina Shtanski stated today. “We intend to return to discussions of this protocol decision, given remarks from international actors, in order not to finish dialogue on this important issue,” she added.

It is to be recalled that on September 20, 2012, the OSCE submitted Joint Agreement on road transportation (draft Protocol Decision on some first priority measures on ensuring freedom of movement of population of Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova”) in which existing format of Pridnestrovian number plates was acknowledged as valid for international use provided that transport moving across foreign territory will have indication in the form of a sticker with letters “MD” on a vehicle. However, such variant of problem's solution didn't satisfy the Moldovan side.

In this connection, Pridnestrovie twice sent sketches of neutral number plates to the Moldovan side, with none of them having been accepted by Kishinev. In its turn, Moldova offered sketches developed earlier by EUBAM Mission. These number plates contain indication of “MD” and “TN” and are not perceived by the Pridnestrovian side as neutral. According to Pridnestrovie, neutral number plates shouldn't indicate belonging to any state.
