President of Pridnestrovie Met with President of Abkhazia

Today Pridnestrovian President Yevgeny Shevchuk met with President of the Republic of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab. Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the PMR for International Cooperation, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nina Shtanski, Head of Official Representative Office of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the Republic of Abkhazia Garri Kupalba participated in the meeting from the Pridnestrovian side. The Abkhazian side was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vyacheslav Chirikba, Vice Prime-Minister Alexander Stranichkin. Reminder – during these days Abkhazia celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Day of Proclamation of Independence.

During bilateral meeting the issues which concerned socio-economical status of the citizens of both states and the perspectives of development of mutual relations of fraternal republics were discussed.

President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Yevgeny Shevchuk and President of the Republic of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab signed Joint Declaration. Here the sides confirmed fundamental meaning of Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation signed on January 24, 1993 and also mutual recognition and respect of sovereignty, independence and inviolability of borders within the framework of the territories fixed by the Constitutions of Pridnestrovie and Abkhazia.

Joint Declaration, in particular, reads: “The sides attach fundamental importance to continuation of dialogue on interstate, interdepartmental and intergovernmental levels in order to increase efficiency of interaction of the sides and further filling of their relations with relevant content.” Besides the document emphasizes the importance of certain measures directed on provision of development of dynamic and comprehensive cooperation between Pridnestrovie and Abkhazia. The Republics are intended to take effective measures for practical implementation of previously signed agreements making efforts on broadening of contractual legal framework of bilateral relations. “The sides consider it necessary to make additional efforts in order to broaden cooperation in trade-economical, socio-humanitarian, scientific-educational and cultural spheres. The sides will promote the strengthening of direct interregional contacts, connections between the universities, scientific and cultural institutes and business societies,” the document reads.

Considering high dynamic and potential of uniting processes on Eurasian space, Pridnestrovie and Abkhazia made an agreement to coordinate efforts on the issues connected with their participation in Eurasian integration processes.

President of Pridnestrovie and President of Abkhazia charged Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries with necessary activity directed on intensification of interdepartmental cooperation and coordination of efforts on solving of the problems of foreign policy of mutual interest.
