Today, the PMR’s Supreme Council plenary meeting adopted a statement in connection with the increasing tensions in the Security Zone fuelled by the Republic of Moldova.

As part of its statement, the Supreme Council stated serious concern about the degrading dialogue between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova at all existing levels due to the irresponsible steps of official Chisinau. Along with this, parliamentarians expressed strong support for the ongoing tripartite peacekeeping operation on the Dniester and conviction that the pandemic-related Pridnestrovian quarantine-sanitary posts are functioning as intended and do not pose a threat to maintaining stability in and outside the Security Zone.

“The Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic calls on the Moldovan authorities to abandon unscrupulous interpretations and attempts to distort and discredit the efforts of the Pridnestrovian side in coronavirus infection containment. Pridnestrovie firmly repels any ultimatum attacks and threats addressed to it by individual officials and members of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

The Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic warns the Moldovan side against further provocative rhetoric and efforts to escalate tensions, including demonstrative provocative gestures in the form of political “tourism” of individual Moldovan officials to the Security Zone,” the statement reads.

Pridnestrovian deputies called on Moldova to return to an adequate substantive dialogue with Pridnestrovie and eliminate any form of politicizing the pandemic containment issues, as well as provocative attacks against the peacekeeping operation, stating the readiness to respond to emerging challenges respectively.

The Resolution of the PMR’s Supreme Council received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR will be sent to all international participants in the 5+2 negotiation process.
