Ambassador-at-Large of the Foreign Ministry of Russia Sergey Gubarev paid an official visit to Pridnestrovie. The Russian delegation also included Deputy Director of the Second Department of the CIS of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vitaly Tryapitsyn. Russian diplomats were received by President Yevgeny Shevchuk. The meeting was also attended by acting Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev.

The sides paid attention to the socio-economic situation in Pridnestrovie, matters affecting the interests of Russian citizens living in the republic.

During the meeting Yevgeny Shevchuk and Sergey Gubarev exchanged views on the current state of the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. It was about politically motivated criminal cases initiated by the RM authorities against the citizens of Pridnestrovie, the freedom of movement of goods, and the intention of Moldova and Ukraine to organize a joint border and customs control on the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border checkpoint “Kuchurgan”.

Yevgeny Shevchuk said: “Today there is no effective platform to discuss and find compromises. We hope that after certain stabilization in Kishinev, Moldovan negotiators will actively get to work on the search for compromise solutions. The negotiations have not been conducted for the last year and a half, there have been fragmentary consultations. Pridnestrovie showed serious patience in order not to apply symmetric retaliatory measures to a series of destructive actions of the Moldovan side, affecting the interests of Pridnestrovians having the Russian citizenship as well.”

Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Gubarev said that a broad range of problems accumulated in the negotiation process that must be addressed. “We have identified the problems before our Moldovan colleagues. And, at least we have received signals preliminarily that the RM officials have already given at least thought to addressing these problems,” said Sergey Gubarev.

In addition, the meeting discussed issues of functioning of peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie as the main guarantee of peace and security. The President stressed that the republic highly appreciates the effectiveness of peacekeeping operation under the auspices of the Russian Federation.

“The peacekeeping operation, the basis of which is formed by the Russian peacekeeping contingent - it's not just a few hundred soldiers, but the contingent, behind which the full might of the Russian army stands, all the power of the Russian Federation. And it has ensured peace on the Dniester for over 20 years. The peacekeeping operation will continue as long as necessary,” concluded the Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The meeting discussed other issues of mutual interest.
