Russian Diplomats: “Ten Years of Negotiations Are Better than One Day of War”

Today Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Gubarev and Deputy Head of Second Department on the CIS States of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Vitaly Tryapitsyn held a press briefing for representatives of Pridnestrovian state media. Russian guests arrived to Tiraspol on the invitation of the President of the PMR in order to participate in the festivities dedicated to the 220th Anniversary of creation of the city.



During the meeting Russian diplomats were asked a number of questions on the successfulness of the tactics of “small steps” and on the condition of the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, the question on foreign policy choice of Pridnestrovie, on the perspectives of cooperation between Pridnestrovie and Russia.



According to Sergey Gubarev the tactics of “small steps” in tote proved its' value. However, according to the opinion of Russian diplomat, it is necessary to give it some time in order for the sides to achieve practical results. “The quantity of contacts between the representatives of the working groups has not yet been transformed to the quality of our work,” he said. At the same time, according to Sergey Gubarev it is naively to suppose that it is possible to solve in the near future the problems which have been accumulating during many years. “Ten years of negotiations are better than one day of war,” he emphasized.



Answering the question on the perspectives of bilateral interaction between Pridnestrovie and Russia, diplomat expressed the opinion that such kind of cooperation could be implemented on interregional level. According to his opinion such form of interstate connections is more effective and more reasonable method of solving of practical issues. “The less gears the bureaucratic machine has, the better it works,” he concluded.



“New version of Foreign Policy Concept of Pridnestrovie is rather durable base for the future work. After the President and all interested agencies make their amendments, it will become an action plan for nearest perspective”. Such opinion was expressed by the diplomats on the issue concerning future implementation of this document. The guests supported foreign policy course held by the Head of State.



Russian diplomats answered the number of other questions of the representatives of the state media.
