Conference on Improvement of Confidence Building Measures in Moldo-Pridnestrovian Settlement Process started its Work in Rottach-Egern

Today Conference on Improvement of Confidence Building Measures in Moldo-Pridnestrovian Settlement Process opened in German town of Rottach-Egern.

Forum is held under the OSCE aegis and will last 3 days. It is a review conference during which Moldovan and Pridnestrovian experts are to tell about first results of their work. Heads of expert and working groups of the sides, members of the 5+2 format: political representatives of Pridnestrovie and of Moldova Nina Shtanski and Yevgeny Karpov, representatives of guarantor-States Russian and Ukraine, of mediator – the OSCE and of the observers in framework of Permanent Conference – the EU and the USA, are taking part in work of the conference. Moldo-Pridnestrovian meeting on high level became major issue of first day of conference. President of the PMR Yevgeny Shevchuk and Moldovan Prime-Minister Vladimir Filat greeted members of conference and informed about their views on goals and perspectives of the negotiation process.

“We should all remember that creation of optimal life conditions for of our citizens, removal of obstacles which halt the development of our economics is our joint task”, – Yevgeny Shevchuk stated when addressing the experts. Only successes in social and economic cooperation, efficient realization of agreements between Pridnestrovie and Moldova can become firm basis for beginning of discussion of more important problems and of seeking compromises”. Yevgeny Shevchuk noted progress in work of expert groups, especially pointing out the agreements in railway communication and customs spheres. He also noted progress in work of Permanent Conference. At the same time, according to Head of State, it is important to intensify dialog in other spheres. “The most sensible for our people but at the same time resolvable issues are communications, vehicle transportation, banking sphere. These are waiting to be resolved”.

Vladimir Filat stated that most of current year agreements which were reached with Pridnestrovian side, have been implemented. Moldovan Prime-Minister referred to resumption of railway communication through Pridnestrovie as to the major achievement. He expressed his intention to proceed work in this direction in order to resume also passenger communication through Pridnestrovie. Vladimir Filat agreed with necessity of resolving issues in other spheres as well and appealed to heads of working groups to find technical decisions and not to use problems which may rise during negotiation process as an excuse for inactivity.

Penal session on several social and economic issues also was held today.

Conference in Rottach-Egern is a third review conference. First two also took place in Germany – in Garmisch and in Bad-Reichenhall. At Bad-Reichenhall, in particular, principal agreement on oficializing 5+2 format was reached during the meeting on high level.
