The OSCE Office in Kishinev hosted a meeting of the expert (working) groups on ecology and agriculture today.

The sides discussed a number of topical issues in the field of environmental protection with a focus on the implementation of specific measures to protect the ecosystems of the Dniester River.

The meeting discussed the protection of aquatic biological resources of the Dniester, including the definition of the necessary measures aimed at preserving fish stocks.

The Pridnestrovian side drawing attention to the need for coordinated actions to clean up the Dniester river bed has come forward with an initiative to undertake a relevant study in this area and has informed about the ongoing planned work of relevant agencies on retrieving sunken trees.

The sides turned attention to the development of mechanisms for bilateral cooperation in view of the loss of effect of the “Plan of joint actions of authorized structures of the parties in the field of environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources for 2013-2014.” In this context, the experts agreed to submit their proposals on the document regulating cooperation between relevant institutions in the environmental field.

The sides expressed mutual opinion on the need to continue the systemic interaction on topical issues in the field of ecology.
