Today, a round table on “Contemporary political challenges for Pridnestrovie. Social consolidation as a basis of security” took place in the office of the Republican Movement ”Recognition”. The event was attended by Co-Chairperson of the Joint Control Commission from Pridnestrovie Oleg Belyakov, Deputy Ministers of Defense of the PMR Pavel Mikhailov and Nikolay Muntyan, Deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the PMR, Chairperson of the General Council of the Republican public movement “Recognition” Vyacheslav Tobukh, and also representatives of republican non-governmental organizations and movements. Taking part in the event also was Deputy Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev.

In the course of the round table the discussion was focused on problematic issues in the context of the information-propaganda campaign launch against Pridnestrovie, increasing political and economic pressure on the part of the RM, unilateral actions, violating inalienable rights of citizens, including numerous facts of restricting free movement and initiating criminal cases against citizens and officials of Pridnestrovie what seriously impedes as a whole normal dialogue on settlement of the conflict on the Dniester in the 5+2 format.Vitaly Ignatiev noted that under current political and information challenges faced by the republic the need for concerted work of Pridnestrovian non-governmental organizations and movements has further increased. “Pridnestrovie is an outpost and integral part of the Russian world. The part that due to the activity of the non-governmental organizations was once able to organize itself, asserted with arms its independence and today looks to the future with confidence and prevents internal contradictions,” – emphasized the Deputy Foreign Minister. The diplomat detailed to the representatives of non-governmental organizations what foreign policy problems and challenges are faced by the republic today both at the level of the negotiation process and in the framework of the peacekeeping operation, as well as in the sphere of regional security in general, noted that solutions to those issues are possible only with consolidation of common efforts and activity of civil society. In turn, Co-Chairperson of the Joint Control Commission from Pridnestrovie Oleg Belyakov brought to the attention of the audience the information on the situation on the border of Pridnestrovie, on continuous blocking meetings of the Joint Control Commission during the period from June to the present day. “Actions taken by the Moldovan side alarm, prompt us to think that the Moldovan side creates preconditions for integral parts of the peacekeeping operation to be broken down and for the possible withdrawal of the RM from the Agreement of 1992 On principles of peace settlement,” – noted with regret Oleg Belyakov. At the end of the event the participants in the round table agreed to develop and send proposals within a week in form of recommendations of non-governmental organizations in order to facilitate the resolution of the problems highlighted in the discussions.
