Moldova and Pridnestrovie Agreed to Resume Official Work of the 5+2 Format

Today, on September 22, 2011, Moscow hosted a regular round of informal consultations of the participants of the Permanent Conference on Political Issues in the Framework of the Pridnestrovien Settlement Negotiation Process.

Upon instruction of the PMR's President, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Yastrebchak took part in the work of the forum. In the course of the consultations special attention of the participants was focused on the possibilities of the resumption of the official work of the 5+2 consultative format (Moldova and Pridnestrovie are the sides; Russia and Ukraine are guarantor countries; OSCE is a mediator; the EU and the USA – observers).

Vladimir Yastrebchak paid attention of the participants of the conference to the fact that during the period since the past Moscow's meeting certain progress has been made in relations of the sides that allows speaking about the change of the situation in issues of bilateral relations of Kishinev and Tiraspol.

The outcome of today's round is the Statement in which all participants fixed their consent to restart official work of the Permanent Conference on Political Issues in the Framework of the Pridnestrovien Settlement Negotiation Process.

Vladimir Yastrebchak expressed his appreciation to the Russian Federation as organizer of the event, as well as to Ukraine and the OSCE for a high level of attention and interest in achieving a fair settlement of the Moldova-Pridnestrovie relations by peaceful political means.

 The next consultations in the 5+2 format are supposed to take place before the end of this year. The Pridnestrovien side considers that their main issues should become principles and procedure of further work of the Permanent Conference. 

The head of the foreign policy office of the PMR invited representatives of guarantor countries, mediators and observers of the Permanent Conference to visit Pridnestrovie before the next official meeting to discuss and shape its agenda.
