The Republic of Moldova passed moratorium on the ban for vehicles registered in Pridnestrovie to cross the Moldovan-Ukrainian border

This request was made by the Pridnestrovian side during recent meetings of political representatives and expert (working) groups on transport and road infrastructure.

Today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR has received an official letter from the political representative of the Republic of Moldova informing that the border police of the RM passed moratorium on the ban for vehicles registered in Pridnestrovie to cross the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. Let us recall that the Pridnestrovian side put forward this initiative at the meeting of expert (working) groups on transport and road infrastructure on October 2 this year. Then Pridnestrovian experts urged the Moldovan colleagues to freeze the ban while parties are carrying out negotiations on a final comprehensive settlement of this issue.

Commenting on this positive decision of the Moldovan authorities, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev stated that the Moldovan side, in point of fact, had listened to the points of Pridnestrovie on the necessary cancellation of this discriminatory decision.

“The moratorium is passed for an indefinite term. Until a formula for the final resolution of this problem is not found our motorists can cross the border between Moldova and Ukraine  on the basis of documents on registration of the vehicle, as well as documents confirming the permanent residence in the territory of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic” – said the head of the Foreign Ministry.

He also emphasized that Pridnestrovie had had discussions on this issue both within the dialogue of political representatives and at the level of relevant expert groups, thus the moratorium “can only be welcome”. “This step shows that the Moldovan side is trying to correct their mistakes. Certainly, this decision gives us the desired field for creating an atmosphere to continue the work on finding the best solutions to the problems in the field of transport under the normal conditions” – said Vitaly Ignatiev.
