Official delegations of South Ossetia and Abkhazia get acquainted with the history and modern life of Pridnestrovie

On September 3, Pridnestrovian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Yastrebchak and his Deputy Sergey Simonenko together with the official delegation of South Ossetia, which had arrived on the occasion of celebratory events dedicated to the 19th anniversary of the PMR, visited Christ the Savior Cathedral in Tiraspol, where the prayer service in memory of the victims of Beslan tragedy was held. Five years ago, the terrorist act in school No.1 in South Ossetian town of Beslan bereaved 334 people, including 186 children, of their lives. To remember this tragic date, the Day of solidarity in fighting terrorism was established in Russia. Today, prayer services in commemoration of the victims of terrorism are being held in Russian cathedrals. This very day, the official delegation of South Ossetia visited Pridnestrovian town of Bendery. The South Ossetian guests laid flowers to the municipal Glory Memorial to commemorate Pridnestrovian people, died in 1992. The delegation from South Ossetia visited Museum of Bendery tragedy which keeps memory of the town's invasion by Moldavian aggressors and of the heroic holdout of Bendery citizens, and also got acquainted with the historical complex “Bendery Fortress”.

PMR MFA leadership and delegations of South Ossetia and Abkhazia visited official representations of these republics in Pridnestrovie. In the course of these meetings, perspectives of cooperation development between the three states, both at the bilateral level and in the framework of the Community “For Democracy and Peoples' Rights”, were discussed. The meetings were also attended by the Chairman of PMR Central Election Committee, veteran of the Joint Council of Labor Collectives of the Republic Peter Danisenko. He bestowed jubilee medals on South Ossetia and Abkhazia representatives, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the JCLC, organization which was originator of the Republic's formation.  Later that day, South Ossetia representatives visited Pridnestrovian State University named after T.G. Shevchenko where they saw exhibits of the archeological museum and also met with the Rector of the university Stepan Beril. During the meeting, issues of cooperation between the two republics in the sphere of education were discussed. In particular, the interlocutors considered questions of student exchange practice development, as well as development of teaching and methodological cooperation between the state institutions of higher education of South Ossetia and Pridnestrovie, united into the Association of universities of self-determined republics.

Summing up today's work, representatives of South Ossetia and Abkhazia have expressed their gratitude to PMR MFA leadership for intensive program of their visit.
