On the Signing of the Joint Action Plan in the Field of Environmental Protection and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources

Today, Kishinev Office of the OSCE Mission saw special meeting of expert (working) groups on ecology and agriculture focused on fulfillment of agreements reached by political representatives of Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova Nina Shtanski and Yevgeny Karpov at Vienna meeting in the 5+2 format. The aim was to agree upon and sign the Joint Action Plan which stipulates for the start of practical interdepartmental interaction between Moldova and Pridnestrovie in the sphere of ecology and environmental protection for the next year and a half.

The fact that political representatives of the sides reached agreement on some principled organizational and legal issues of further work in this area allowed experts of Pridnestrovie and Moldova to sign a joint plan of work providing for activities in environmental sphere such as preservation of fishery resources, exchange of information in the field of environmental protection and other activities.

It should be pointed that one of the important areas of work fixed in the Plan is monitoring of the Dniester water resources status. Experts are sure that this cooperation will result in joint riverbed cleaning and dredging needed to solve the problem of the flooding of localities on both banks of the Dniester in the area of Dubossary reservoir, from Dubossary GES and up to Rashkovo village.

The Pridnestrovian side is looking forward to a substantive and mutually beneficial dialogue regarding further implementation of the Joint Action Plan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR hopes that constructive approach displayed by the sides towards joint work of competent authorities of the sides in the field of ecology will become a positive example for systemic dialogue and practical work to be improved, as well as for other relevant expert groups.
