ConIFA delegation visited Pridnestrovie

Today, a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of the PMR Igor Shornikov and representatives of the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (ConIFA) was held in the MFA of PMR. The meeting was attended by delegates of the organization Sascha Düerkop and Jens Jockel, Deputy Head of the State Service for Sports of the PMR Vasily Utin, Head of the Mass Sports Department of the State Service for Sports of the PMR Oleg Dubrovin.

During the meeting the sides discussed the possibility of participation of Pridnestrovian footballers in sports activities conducted by the organization.

ConIFA representative Sascha Düerkop appreciated the developed football infrastructure of Pridnestrovie and expressed the hope that it will be possible in the future to hold international football tournaments in the republic. The ConIFA representatives asked about the existence of an own national football team in Pridnestrovie.

The Pridnestrovian diplomat noted that football is traditionally popular and well developed in the country. Pridnestrovian clubs regularly participate in the championships of Moldova and show invariably high results. However a national football team has not yet been created for a range of objective reasons. At the same time the prospect for participation in ConIFA can become a good stimulus for the creation of the own Football Federation in Pridnestrovie.

The sides identified the prospects for participation of Pridnestrovian players in the upcoming 2016 World Championship under the auspices of ConIFA in Sukhumi, the capital of the Republic of Abkhazia.

ConIFA (the Confederation of Independent Football Associations) is a football organization established in 2013. Its main task - to unite the football teams of the countries which were not officially included in FIFA.

To date, ConIFA consists of 26 football associations, including the Republic of South Ossetia, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, the Republic of Abkhazia.
