The PMR’s MFA hosted a meeting between Pridnestrovian Foreign Minister, Vitaly Ignatiev, and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Moldova Valeria Biagotti. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Lajos Karakas.

Welcoming the guests, Vitaly Ignatiev expressed his gratitude to the Italian OSCE Chairmanship for active participation in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement process this year. “We are grateful for the special attention of the Italian side to the negotiation process and to the work on implementation of the signed agreements. I am also pleased with the existing contacts in cooperation with the Italian Embassy,” the diplomat said.

The parties exchanged views regarding the current situation in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova. In this context, Vitaly Ignatiev noted that, despite the progress achieved, there is a lack of dynamics in implementation of a number of agreements at this stage.

Vitaly Ignatiev stressed that the main task facing all the participants in the negotiation process at the current stage is not to allow the dialogue of the parties to “freeze or slow down”. In this regard, he placed particular emphasis on the need for international participation, including in the framework of the “Permanent Conference...” activities. According to the Foreign Minister, the Pridnestrovian side sees high practical benefits in holding meetings in the 5+2 format. “It is time to analyse the implementation of the agreements reached, discuss problematic aspects in a broad format and outline promising areas of work. I believe that the “Permanent Conference ...” meetings are of high relevance,” the diplomat added.

Valeria Biagiotti, in turn, reaffirmed readiness of the Italian OSCE Chairmanship to continue making active efforts to preserve and increase the positive assets accumulated in the negotiation process throughout the year. She particularly thanked the Pridnestrovian side for the high dynamics in the matter of ensuring smooth functioning of Moldovan Latin script schools in the territory of Pridnestrovie.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to continue working communication across the whole range of topical issues.
