Experts’ Opinion: the Project of Pridnestrovian Foreign Policy Concept – Favorable Base for Scientific Discussion

Today T.G. Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University saw the Republican Round Table “Foreign Policy Concept within the Context of Eurasian Integration of Pridnestrovie.” The leadership of the PMR's MFA, researchers and lecturers of the main institution of higher education of the Republic, deputies of the Supreme Soviet, the representatives of Media participated in the activity of the Round Table.



While opening the discussion, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev emphasized that the document of such level was submitted to broad public discussion for the first time. According to diplomat, the principle of succession, the account taken of the outcomes of the nationwide Referendum of September 17, 2006, framework nature of the document became one of the basic principles in the elaboration of the project of the Concept. At the same time, as it was mentioned, the project of the new version includes new sections which were not fixed in the Concept of 2005. They include firmness of the acting format of the peacekeeping operation, freedom of foreign economic activity of Pridnestrovie, the importance of creation of international image of the State. Strategic vector of the development of Pridnestrovie within Eurasian integration set up by the Head of State is the most important innovation of new version of Foreign Policy Concept.



Vitaly Ignatiev reported that “the project proposed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR can not be ideal and universal. The Concept must have basic nature. But all provisions based on principals connected with the protection of interests of Pridnestrovian State on international arena must be considered in full.”



Scientific and expert discussion of methodological aspects of foreign policy of Pridnestrovian State was held during the Round Table. Scientific explanations of a number of specific terms used in the project of the Concept were given. In spite of the number of voiced remarks, experts came to conclusion, that Ministry of Foreign Affairs made considerable amount of work which revealed public need for acknowledgement and formulation of Pridnestrovian national idea.



Remarks, propositions, amendments to the project are accumulated by special working group created within the framework of T.G. Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University.



In the near time the groundworks of scientific and teaching staff of the University will be summarized and submitted to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR.



The participants of the Round Table expressed opinion that Foreign Policy Concept of the PMR that is discussed today signifies the beginning of a new stage in the development of foreign policy of the State.
