The President of the PMR Met the UN Senior Expert on Human Rights in Pridnestrovie

The Head of the State Yevgeny Shevchuk received the UN Senior Expert on Human Rights in Pridnestrovie. Exchange of opinions on several aspects of the report drawn up by Thomas Hammarberg took place at the Office of the President. It will be recalled that the UN Senior Expert on Human Rights in Pridnestrovie studied situation in the Republic during the whole 2012. He visited a number of detention facilities, institutions of health care and social protection, and exchanged views with the representatives of the executive and judicial branches. “Outside perspective on the processes occurring in our Republic is very important. Opinions may differ but they allow you to find the best solutions,” said the President of Pridnestrovie Yevgeny Shevchuk during today's meeting.



According to Hammarberg, issues on human rights are distinctive for every country. Exercise and protection of these rights depend to a large extent on the economic situation in the country.



“In Pridnestrovie I got full access to every institution, to each person and I highly appreciated such transparency,” noted Thomas Hammarberg. The report drawn up by him contains 38 recommendations in the sphere of human rights in Pridnestrovie. “The government of the Republic will hopefully take into account my proposals,” emphasized the UN Senior Expert on Human Rights in the PMR.



“The activity of such a high-level expert is very important for our Republic. We stand for further cooperation,” the President of Pridnestrovie Yevgeny Shevchuk concluded.
